"Where Did I Go" (In Progress)- Hour 13

January 1, 2016

I got the new year off to a good start!  I'm now past the half way mark on "Where Did I Go?" a large piece that I hope will be juried into MFA Winter Members Show that begins next week.  Sunday I will drop it off to be critiqued...no pressure, right?  Just a well known curator eyeballing my craft up close and giving me the "proceed" or "go home", which are little round green or red stickers that will determine my mood for the remainder of the week.  Ugh.

So this evening I have three photos for you.  As you might notice, I changed my mind 3+ times regarding where I wanted to go with the shading on this piece.  In the end, I opted for a drippy paint shadowing that I think adds more to the composition.  Besides, the spray bottle is my favorite tool for work and play.  I've been known to squirt my dog and kids with it until they drop whatever attitude that prompted my offensive in the first place.

Here I've worked on her skin and replotted the shading.

Yep, changed the bottom half of the painting again.  For the last time, hopefully.

Hour 13, after adding some detail to the background characters.  I'm still unsure about a face at this point.  I have a look in mind, but putting a face on her may take away from my initial intent of presenting someone who doesn't know who they are.  A Faceless subject conveys that better, so please wish me luck in deciding these things tomorrow.

I plan to add another 5 hours to this piece tomorrow evening and hope that will be sufficient time to complete this piece...of course, it's hard to know these things....

Thank you for looking! And Happy New Year!
