Welcome!

I’ve been documenting my creative endeavors since 2014. Thoughts on the creative process, my travels, shows, new ideas and what’s on my easel are just a few things I post on. Feel free to linger…

Midsummer Madness at MFA!

For two weeks, all artist members of Maryland Federation of Art will be hanging at Circle Gallery.  There is no jury for this show because it's is a people's choice show, and an award will go to the artist with the most votes for his/her piece.  The party is July 8th, so please come if you can.  The show will actually be up and running from this Saturday until July 10th (I believe).  I'm thinking about entering two from my Preakness series.

I wanted to write a little tonight about the importance of practice when one desires to improve.  And who can't improve in some way?  Practice is the only way to do that.

I decided this week to redo a composition that I've painted twice so far.  Not because I love what I've done but because I don't love what I've done.  The first piece below was done way back in about 2005.  Under that piece is the a painting from the very same photo that I completed in (I think) 2012.  Notice the difference?  My work has really improved even since then.  I can see all the mistakes or lack of detail in these, but I've become comfortable in developing the various styles (that are admittedly all over the spectrum) that are my own.  Can I help that all the little artists living in my head compete for canvas time? I've had both in galleries previously, but these little Jersey Cows have taken up residence in my house in recent years.  Both are available for purchase.  Inquire via email: jenr_senior1@hotmail.com

In the coming weeks, I will again attempt this painting. So stay tuned for a little bit of visual/tangible progress on my work since 2012.  I'm really excited to see how this next one turns out!

"Tag #56" 2012.  Photo makes the painting look brighter than in person but I'd like for you to see the hues and composition, how much more detail is put into a piece now.

As I mentioned earlier this week, lots going on around here and summer starts at the end of the week so I will try to be better about posting blogs more often but may fail miserably!  My four little ones are already fighting amongst themselves so please pray for my sanity (or at least a happy kind of crazy) for me.

Thank you for plugging along...
