Today was day five of working on Custer State Park, which from today on will also be known as "Zion (No. 3)". I think talking about Zion with my folks and missing Springdale, Utah has really messed with this painting...
Anyhow, here's what I have as of today. Honestly, I think it needs a little more work, maybe an hour or two more before I think about closing the book on this one. I'm really happy with this so far. It's very different than anything I've done in a while, probably since my last trip to Zion (can you tell that I love that park?),
This is not totally done and the photo is terrible, but you can see what I've changed on the composition today. You may have also noticed that I've cooled off the front hill and also added some turquoise and cobalt blue as well as cobalt turquoise. Making sure that the colors all have a bit of each other in them helps meld the painting together. I want a shock of color, but they need to get along too, to make give the painting some harmony
I know, the cloud looks terrible. I redid it three times today with no luck (or relief!). Will try again tomorrow...hopefully I'll have some better ideas by then!
Tomorrow it may be complete. But, I'm helping move a friend tomorrow evening so if I don't post tomorrow it's because I'm dog tired and went to bed!
Thank you as always for spending some QT with my works in progress!
