Welcome!

I’ve been documenting my creative endeavors since 2014. Thoughts on the creative process, my travels, shows, new ideas and what’s on my easel are just a few things I post on. Feel free to linger…

New Work, "Sowing Season" An Abstract Farmscape 20x20"

Good evening! I had a very productive weekend at the easel, in between building new beds in the garden and sowing seeds. Like everyone else, we are going on our ninth week of being home. Luckily, we have some space and the weather is finally fine. I had put in two beds of micro greens a month ago, so we are enjoying those now. All the beds are raised, so in order to create a mini-greenhouse, I simply cover the raised cedar beds with heavy duty clear plastic and staple-gun it to the wood boxes. Five days later, I have sprouts, and four weeks later I have tender French radishes, Russian Red Kale, various baby lettuce, etc. Pretty tasty with a splash of rice vinegar, a squeeze of lemon, a teaspoon of honey, and a drizzle of olive oil!

I am indeed inspired as I am every year at this time. Perhaps this year even more so. Sending the four kiddos outside to ride their bikes, dig holes, make forts, or have campouts (like last night—unfortunately we had a downpour and they got pretty wet). Of course, I was in my bed, enjoying the sounds of the rain hitting the roof and not my head (my poor boys!).

I have two photos for you. The first is one is the halfway mark of the painting. My own method includes a vat of underpainting for both texture and richness. Acrylics are harder to get depth from, but the paints I use are the highest quality, archival, and very saturated. I’m pretty happy with this piece and hope you enjoy it too! It looks fantastic next to “Sea Spray”, a piece that is headed to Delaware (Thank you, Mary!) as soon as this Covid situation is under control. Maryland is closed in everyday, and some folks here are getting anxious. I’m glad to have art as a stress and anxiety reliever. Today I feel so blessed and am looking forward to the summer with my family.

Here is the piece on it’s side, in process. I can’t decide which way it looks best.

Here’s the finished piece, turned on it’s side. I think I like it best this way, but I’m not positive.

I have been making an effort to paint some smaller works that can be completed in 1-2 days vs. 1-2 weeks. It’s enormously gratifying to have something done so quickly! This piece is $425 and 20x20”. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this item. I do offer payment plans on PayPal at $100 a month until it is paid off (not including shipping).

Hope you are enjoying this beautiful East Coast weather as much as I am! Thank you for stopping in! I plan to create a new, even smaller work (11x16 or so) with the canvas I used as a palette for “Sowing Season”. I hate wasting paint on a plastic palette! I should have some progress to share by tomorrow afternoon. :)
