I delivered by piece for Hospice of the Chesapeake Annual Regatta Poster Competition a few weeks ago but had some scraps of watercolored (by me) paper left over and had an idea for a motorboat paper cut piece.
It’s about 12x24” or so (i’ll measure later today) and features a vintage fishing boat, much like the old Bayliner my pop (grandpa to those of you who are not from Southern Maryland) had parked on Tanner’s Creek when I was growing up. My uncles still fish there, but I miss seeing that smelly, battered every-man boat that Pop would give us rides on. I can’t remember much about the boat except for the faded pinstriping on the side and that no one, I mean nobody, ever wore life vests, even my uncles when they took Pop’s boat out with a case of beer (not a good idea…).
I learned how to fish for Blues and Rock (that’s Striper for those of you north of Delaware). I also fondly recall the only time Pop took me out by myself. I’d been begging him to take me to the lighthouse a mile or two from the pier behind his cottage (shanty). It was a really wonderful thing to see! I imagined being a lighthouse keeper for many years following that little outing, and even more so since coming to terms with the fact that I am an introvert and being alone is something I long for at times. I adore my family of six, but as you might suspect, it is very loud (read: circus) pretty much all the time at our place. My buddies all tease me, saying that i’ll miss all the noise when it’s gone, but they are extroverts, so I don’t think they get that I recharge in the quiet.
Here’s “Old Bayliner” so far. If you are interested, please send me a message on “Contact” page. I think It’ll be about $160 (including shipping) or so when complete, if one of my kids don’t beg to keep it….
